A new project!

UPDATE: IED is now available on PC here!

Hey all!

So I've reached a point in A Journey to Tower's development where it's the home stretch and I'm not fully happy with it and am nervous to release, and all that jazz. It's a pretty common and typical feeling to have as an indie dev, but I really feel like I owe the game more than just throwing it out with some half-assed polish.

So instead I've began work on a much smaller project to take my mind of the game and hopefully give myself a fresh perspective when I return to it.

The new game is called IED. It's exactly as the name implies; a game focused on IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). This game actually has a political drive behind it and although utilizes my minimal, often cutesy art style, it's actually a pretty serious commentary on the current motivation behind overseas deployment and war in general.

I don't often share my views and opinions so obviously (by talking about it - I'd rather the message be interpreted differently by players), but I personally didn't support my country's (New Zealand) recent decision to send troops to Iraq. With the realities soldiers already face overseas (IEDs being a serious and awfully tragic one) I wanted to make a game that attempts to drive the dangers home to people in a way that's approachable and against the game industries convention of glorifying war and combat.

I don't know whether or not I'll achieve this, but I'm going to try!

I'm not an activist by any means, but I do feel as though games are a good expression to voice beliefs in a more objective manner - I have my opinions but the players may and will interpret the game differently.

Anyway, enough rants! Here's some very early material:

IED should only take a couple of weeks to finish. I don't have a lot of time this week but the scope of the game is pretty small so I'm confident it won't take too long! I look forward to sharing it (PC and possibly HTML5)!

Hope everyone's having a good week!
